Blast your Abs

What does it mean to Blast your Abs?  Simply put, it means to exercise and fatigue your abdominal muscles until you’re too tired to do another set.  And why Blast your Abs? Because when properly exercised strong abdominal muscles improves your breathing, posture, balance and flexibility, as well as reduces the likelihood and severity of back pain and protects against injury.  Not to mention a leaner waistline and much tighter belly.  A mere 5 minutes a day is well worth the effort – for anyone.  And with my fat burning video series workout #6, you don’t even have to get out of bed!  Enjoy your workout – R

Burn those Abs

One of the most simple exercises you can do for your core and abdominal muscles is the standing side body crunch, or as I like to call them, side-to-sides.  Workout #5 of my 5 minute fat burning video series does just that – burns your abs with several instructional and easy-to-follow sets of side-to-sides.  So if you’re looking to firm your mid-section and reduce your waistline, whether or not you already have a good core & abdominal program, consider adding these 5 minutes of core & abs to your day.  Everyday!

Michelle Obama’s got it right

There’s no question that our nation’s First Lady has got it right when she says “small changes can lead to big results”.  I strongly believe in Michelle Obama’s child obesity initiatives, and I totally concur with her push for healthier meals and more exercise, especially for anyone NOT currently on a fitness program.  As for overweight children and their role model parents, let’s get them started with a daily fitness routine that’s simple and attainable – whether or not they can afford a gym or yoga studio membership. Like my new 5 minute fat burning series on YouTube.  Each low impact workout is designed for anyone of any size, weight, age or gender.  Plus, these 5 minutes of exercise will serve to jump-start your day, strengthen your body and your mind, burn fat while getting your heart rate up, as well as lay the groundwork for your daily fitness routine.  So give it a try…and I’ll see you next time!  R

Another day, another fat burning workout

In keeping with our theme to burn fat while sculpting your thighs, workout #3 of my 5 minute fat burning series employs the age old exercise most commonly referred to as the lunge.  For anyone looking to start a new fitness program, keep it simple and make sure you do something everyday – even for only 5 minutes.  It will help establish a strong foundation that will propel you to greater fitness heights.  Enjoy your workout – R

Change is good

For the past week I’ve had the fortunate, albeit stressful task of moving my home and office.  I say fortunate because whether you see the cup half full or half empty, change is good.  As humans, we suffer from what behaviorists call homeostasis.  Simply put, we don’t like change because our internal tendency is to maintain a stable and constant condition. So if you’ve ever moved you know how challenging it is to pack up your life, ship it another neighborhood (in my case 12 miles away which in Los Angeles is like another state), unpack and reorder everything in your new home or office, become familiar with all the retail and convenience stores, gas stations, dry cleaners, gyms and yoga studios, and most importantly, changing your address for your multitude of accounts like banks, credit cards, postal service, magazines, drivers license, health care providers, and professional organizations.  Not to mention all your family and friends.  So much for homeostasis.  That said, moving gives you an excellent opportunity to explore new markets and expand your world.  To meet new people, to experience new beginnings.  Change is good.  Especially when it comes to improving yourself and your life.  Like embracing a daily fitness program.  However stressful and challenging you may think it is to get started, it’s well worth the effort.  So if you haven’t made the change, one that truly improves your overall well being, get a move on it.  And enjoy your workout!

Point of no return

I just visited my thirty-something year old friend who was speaking about her weight when she said, “I know what it’s like to be past the point of no return”.  She spoke with such conviction about how everyone struggling with weight loss reaches a specific point of no return.   Last week I gave her my 15 Minute Fat Burning Workouts and stopped by today to check in on her and to drop one off for her girlfriend.  She hasn’t started the workouts, but said she would today – after much cajoling on my part. When I asked her why not, she said it was “mental”.  Actually she’s doing quite well, mentally and physically, considering she weighed 218 lbs. two years ago.  She also said her exact “point of no return” was 180 lbs, and that once she reached that point she pretty much gave up hope – and desire – of getting the weight off and skipped right past 200 until her final stop at 218.  And can you believe this adorably funny gal started college weighing 106 lbs? The good news is when she finally reached 218 she started with a well-known weight loss program that helped get her down to today’s weight of 180.  Hmmm.  I suppose now it’s the “point of return”.  Next stop 140.  So she says.  And so I believe – as long as she believes and continues to make good choices.  Because with a daily fitness program complemented by a positive mindset and positive lifestyle choices, anything is possible.  Enjoy your workout – R

Everything worth doing takes time

Have you heard of the new 787 Dreamliner that’s due to hit the market this fall?  It’s promised to be the most advanced, fuel-stingy passenger jet ever made – at a mere $200 million each.  But it’s three years overdue and billions of dollars over budget.  No worries!  Because once it’s ready, travelers will experience shorter and more comfortable trips in a passenger plane that’s the fastest, largest, brightest, lightest, and cleanest – with the purest air quality – ever made.  Sounds great to me.  Because everything worth doing takes time.  Like building a better and more durable plane to achieving a healthier, leaner and better looking body by way of daily fat burning.  That’s why my 15 Minute Fat Burning Workouts are designed to be effective and easy-to-follow without all that jumping around.  More importantly, I believe a simple and attainable workout program is worth doing, but also one that’s successful over time.  And I say attainable because they’re low impact exercises based on yoga principles that anyone can do for only 15 minutes a day – 1% of your life.  Unlike most high-impact fat burning programs that are more complicated and require much more time.  So take a long term approach to your health and fitness, and just like the new Dreamliner, look forward to the results you patiently desire.  Enjoy your workout – R

Get a good lead

North Pole Sunset

When you’re a base-runner it’s always best to get a good lead so you’re in a better position to advance.  And just like in any sport, and in life, it’s always best to be well-conditioned and well-prepared to achieve whatever advantage you can over the opposition.  So let’s consider Mother Nature and Father Time the pitcher and the catcher, and let’s say you’re on base.  Why not get a good lead by starting your new daily fitness program today, if you haven’t started one already?  Because with all the punishing weather out there it’s easy to just curl up in a ball and chill out on the couch for 12 hours.  Well, that sounds relaxing, but don’t forget to get your workout in, even if you stretch out and work your abs for 15 minutes.  Hint: “Thursday’s 15 Minute Fat Burning Workout”.  Plus, you’ll get a head start on your New Year’s resolution to lose weight or get in shape or start sculpting that bikini body for next summer.  So take advantage of Mother Nature and Father Time and get started today.  And don’t forget the sugar-free hot chocolate!  R

Ode to my sister

I spoke with my sister yesterday after I received her beautiful pictures of my nieces and nephews, including my brother’s children. This holiday season my family is 3,000 miles away, but for sure I’m there in spirit.  And keeping with that holiday spirit, my sister told me she just started my fat burning workouts and intends to lose 12 pounds.  The key word here – intends – as opposed to hopes.  Because with anything you do that requires action, it’s better to set your intentions and make it happen than to hope for something good to happen.  She also told me the first two days her legs were so tired she couldn’t go for her 2 mile walk – which she also just started.  I told her after a week or so that muscle fatigue will get better and she’ll be jogging those miles in no time.  This Ode’s for you sis…

Burn Fat Burn

Sometimes the path seems filled with pain,
but the only thing that hurts is your ego in vain.
Who says you’ll find success by pushing yourself daily,
when the results seem as far as the comet Halley.
But wait, you say, there’s a simple solution,
because reasons and excuses are just an illusion.
So keep on trucking with that positive attitude,
with fat burning workouts there’s no room for platitude.
Always set your intentions and just let’em fly,
no judgment, no worries, to your old ways goodbye!

Merry Christmas Everyone – R

Get “Zen in ’10”

Tuesday's Fat Burning Workout

I recently read the average American gains 10-15 pounds during the holiday months.  As crazy as that sounds, people who gain weight around the holidays seem to rationalize it with a New Year’s resolution to lose the weight well before those bikini months.  But why not get “Zen in 10” and start now, two weeks ahead of time, by consciously choosing to eat and drink healthier and beginning a new daily fitness program today – one you can do from the comforts of your own home?  Especially anyone living in the Midwest and on the East Coast – I certainly feel for you! So stop futurizing, as I often say, and keep your thoughts and intentions in the present.  It’s much simpler that way, plus you won’t feel the pressure to perform in the future because of what you did to yourself today.  And when I say get Zen it’s about finding your own personal enlightenment through your thoughts and actions – today.  Not tomorrow because who knows what that will bring.  I should know.  I spent my 20s and 30s futurizing about a life that’s completely different than the one I enjoy today.  So forget about getting back to your workouts and losing that weight in January.  Respect yourself.  And I’ll see you today (and tomorrow) – R
